On the way to Riyadh
RATP Group subsidiary RATP Dev and SAPTCO (Saudi Public Transport Company) have won the bid to implement, operate and maintain the future bus network in the Saudi capital of Riyadh for a twelve-year term.
Riyadh, which currently has 5.7 million inhabitants, includes the development of an entire transport system for the city of Riyadh including both metro and bus networks, with the will to make it a world reference, offering equivalent quality service to best international standards. This network will be run using a fleet of approx. 1,000 vehicles and will include 4 lines, 2 circular lines, 17 regular lines and 70 feeder lines (permanent and transport on demand). The lines will gradually enter service in three phases and will ultimately ensure 90 million passenger kilometres yearly. Eventually, 90 million commercial kilometers will be made each year. This is a very ambitious project since it is created from the beginning and the city will have at present no public transport infrastructure.
As part of this project, RATP Dev told Ixxi to be responsible for integrating transport systems with the installation of ticketing systems, operating and passenger information. Ixxi also assume the role of ticketing operator on behalf of the operating company Public Transport Company (PTC).
Some key figures:
100 is the number of lines of the new network, 70 drawdown to irrigate the deep areas of the city.
1000 buses will make up the fleet, a small revolution in an urban landscape where the car is the first is the first transport means.
4200 employees including 3,200 drivers will lead the network, a huge investment in terms of recruitment and training.
